Alig Dates

Also spelled Allig or Aligue, this Tunisian variety is known for its long, elegant shape, dark mahogany color, and semi-soft texture. It is also grown in Libya under the name Al-Allig.

The taste is particular and good, with a moderate sweetness. It is similar in texture, color, and taste to Khouat Alig, but is slightly thicker and sweeter.

The most known variety of common dates in Tunisia. It is also grown in Libya under the name Al-Allig. It is picked in November. In Libya, it is cultivated in the southern regions.

Rich in carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and minerals. A study on Libyan Al-Allig seeds showed they contain significant levels of potassium (217.57 mg/100g), phosphorus (114.1 mg/100g), and barium (51.34 mg/100g) on a dry weight basis.
